Archive wines

Flavours of time, captured in a bottle
In the world of wine lovers, where every sip is a journey and every bottle tells its own story, archive wines are a testament to timeless elegance and the rich history of winemaking.
At the Zlati grič archive we preserve some of the most precious items from our wine-growing area. Through their unique character and bottle aging our archive wines tell the story of vintages, the land, and the hands that created them.
Our archive wines are stored under ideal conditions in the Charterhouse Žička kartuzija, where the temperature remains stable at around 12°C, and the humidity is naturally balanced. These conditions allow the wines to develop slowly yet nobly – maintaining freshness, gaining complexity, and revealing depths that young wines cannot yet show.
We only archive the highest quality bottles from selected vintages – from Welschriesling and Rhine Riesling, Viteško vino [Knight’s Wine], to Pinot Noir, which is our odd one out for a reason. Each bottle has its own story, each vintage its own mark.
Why choose an archive wine?
Uniqueness
Archive wines cannot be recreated. Vintage, microclimate, and maturing in a bottle creates an unforgettable experience.
Festive occasion
Ideal choice for anniversaries, celebrations or those special moments which deserve something extra.
Sensory depth
A remarkable difference of aroma, texture, and persistence of flavour. This finesse can only be achieved by ageing.
Value over time
Archive wines tend to increase in value over time, thus becoming cherished collectors’ items.
How to enjoy your archive wine?
The aromatics of archive wines is often quite subtle, hence our recommendation:
- Serving temperature: 10–12 °C for white wines, 14–16 °C for red.
- Decanting: After opening the wine pour it into a decanter – this step enables the wine to breathe and develop its aromas while leaving the sediments at the bottom. Leave the wine to settle in the decanter for at least 1 – 2 hours before serving.
- Glasses: Use bigger glasses which enable a better contact with oxygen and unfolding of aromas.
- Perform the tasting at a slow pace, acknowledging the process – archive wines are an experience, which unfolds with every sip.
